- The number of motorcycle registrations increased in 2008, but the number of motorcyclist fatalities increased at a steeper rate.
- 96,000 motorcyclists were injured in traffic crashes in 2008, a decrease of 7,000 from the previous year.
In an analysis of motorcycle accident statistics from 1998 to 2007, the following trends were reported:
- More than 60% of the motorcyclist injuries occurred during the day.
- Almost 85% of motorcyclists injured in accidents every year are male.
- More than two-thirds of motorcyclist injuries occurred from April through September.
- From 1998 to 2007, the number of motorcyclist injuries increased by 110%, from 49,000 to 103,000.
- Approximately half of all motorcycle accidents involve multi-vehicle accidents.
